2023 Luminary Award Honoree
Jane Campion
Being the first female director to receive the Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival in 1993 for The Piano alongside an Academy Award, Jane Campion has created, co-written, directed and produced several Short and Feature films. Her most recent film, The Power of the Dog, received 12 Academy Award nominations and premiered at Venice Film Festival in 2021 where Jane was awarded The Silver Lion for Best Director.
Other nominations include BAFTA Awards; Best Film and Best Director and Golden Globes; Best Motion Picture & Best Director Motion Picture. Jane was also the recipient of the Silver Medallion at Telluride Film Festival, the Louve d’honneur at Montreal Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, Prix Lumière at Lumière Film Festival, Lyon, Director’s Tribute at The Gotham Film & Media Institute and Lifetime Achievement Award at Stockholm Film Festival.

Jane’s first short film, Peel (1982), won Best Short Film Palme d’Or in 1986 at Cannes Film Festival. In 1989 Jane directed her first feature film Sweetie followed by An Angel At My Table (1990). Subsequent to The Piano were The Portrait of a Lady (1996); Holy Smoke (1999); In the Cut (2003) and Bright Star (2009). Jane created, co-wrote, directed and executive produced 2 x 6 hour miniseries of Top of the Lake (2012 and 2017). Jane’s most recent film, The Power of the Dog, premiered at Venice Film Festival in 2021 where Jane was awarded The Silver Lion for Best Director.
